A family garden for a Victorian townhouse

The clients had recently undertaken extensive renovation and building works on this victorian townhouse, and were now looking for a new garden to compliment the house.

Our brief was to design a garden that was in keeping with the victorian style of the house.  The clients wanted a good size level lawn for their children to play and sufficient patio area for entertaining in the garden.

The project included:

  •      Terracing the garden to a produce a level lawn area and a raised bed along the right hand border - the garden previously sloped from right to left

  •     A second, smaller lawn was created at the far end of the garden

  •     The two circular design patios were paving with reclaimed yorkstone

  •     Pathways, and a feature circle laid in dark grey granite setts

  •     The lawns are both edged with dark grey granite setts

  •     The long raised bed and other low planters were built from sandstone

  •     A new wall was built along the rear border of the garden, with a gateway for rear access.  The wall was built from reclaimed yellow stock bricks and ragstone - in keeping with the walls of the house

  •     New closeboard fencing on one side of the garden
